A Rich History
For over a century, our dedication to quality, tradition, and compassionate service has made us a trusted monument company throughout Wisconsin and neighboring states.
Prior to opening the business, Gus J. Reinke had completed his public school educatin and one year of accounting and typing at the local Business Administration College. The Chicago & Northwestern Railroad employed him briefly as a helper. He left that job in 1907 to accept a position in the accounting department at a large local Sash and Door Company.
In 1908, Gus J. Reinke founded G. Reinke & Company, a monument business located on the corner of 9th and South Main Street in Oshkosh, Wisconsin.
Gus partnered with his father and older brothers in the cut stone yard, initially as a silent partner. In 1911, he left his office job to manage the growing memorial monuments business in Oshkosh, guiding its early development and commitment to excellence.
In 1916, Gus J. Reinke built a modern monument shop in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, equipping it with an overhead traveling crane, surfacers, a polisher, and dust-collecting equipment—state-of-the-art at the time. He also installed a five-ton boom derrick in the yard to handle large slabs and rough blocks. From this facility, G. Reinke & Co. manufactured most of its memorial monuments and headstones, earning a reputation for quality craftsmanship.
The business incorporated in 1923, with Gus’ father and brothers remaining involved until their retirements. Industry leaders recognized G. Reinke & Co. as the largest builder of mausoleums and memorial monuments in Wisconsin. In 1950, Gus J. Reinke earned election as President of the Monument Builders of America.
Gus’ son, Robert G. Reinke Sr., joined the family business after serving four years in the United States Navy. A college graduate and devoted family man, Robert Sr. continued the tradition of crafting custom memorial monuments in Oshkosh and throughout Wisconsin.
In 1963, Robert Sr. assumed active management of the company. By then, G. Reinke & Co. had designed and created over 50 mausoleums and more than 5,000 memorial monuments across Wisconsin and neighboring states. Monumental News Review featured Gus J. Reinke on its October 1964 cover, highlighting his contributions to the monument industry.
Today
Robert Sr.’s son, Robert G. Reinke Jr., later joined the business, forming a father-son team with his own son, Brian Reinke. This sparked the pioneering of modern monument design. They, as a team, implemented computer layouts and digital designs as early as 1992, combining innovation with the company’s tradition of craftsmanship in memorial monuments and headstones.
In 2003, G. Reinke & Co. installed an in-house Cam Tech Lasemaster L10 laser, allowing artisans to create photo-real etched images on memorial stones. Our team custom-designs unique photo portraitures and permanently hand-colors them for lasting tributes. The company also launched a web presence, showcasing an array of distinctive granite and marble memorial monuments, mausoleums, and personalized markers, along with specialized services and products for families in Oshkosh and beyond.
With our professional staff, we continue to honor loved ones with care, offering personalized memorial monuments, granite headstones, and custom mausoleums. Explore our services, view our granite color options, and let us help you create a lasting tribute that truly reflects your family’s wishes.
